Marketing

Marketing connects consumers and businesses, communicating the benefits and identity of a product. Marketing affects our daily lives, including special promotions for a tour of Disney World, noticing a brand name on a pair of jeans, listening to a car dealership ad on the radio, or ordering jewelry from a website. Each of these actions requires the five components of marketing: product, price, promotion, distribution, and people—all to meet the needs and wants of customers.

As a marketing major, you will learn how to communicate a product's benefits to consumers, including implementing and controlling marketing strategies. During your junior and senior years, you will conduct marketing research, sales management, promotion, direct marketing, retailing, and logistics as part of marketing strategy development. Then, you will apply your coursework to solve practical business case problems, preparing marketing plans and projects for local businesses. Many students complete internships while in school to gain marketing management practical experience in local firms.
